Central Research Institute for Siddha was established in the year 1971 in a rented building at Chennai. Subsequently the Government of Tamil Nadu has consented to provide a rent-free new building in order to impulse the research in Siddha system of medicine. This section is functioning since 1972.
The main objectives for establishing the Pharmacy is to procure quality drugs to prepare general medicines for issuing to out-patient and in-patient and to prepare research drugs for screening. After the year 1979 the Pharmacy also started preparing certain general medicines for other Siddha units of CCRS, functioning at various places of the nation and special drugs for their research scheme. The department has got license for prepared internal and external Medicines as per the reference Siddha Literature. This Pharmacy has been mechanized to increase the production and to make Pharmacy self-sufficient and to cater to the needs of all the Siddha units under the Council. Thus, the cost of preparation of medicines in the pharmacy is cheaper than the open market and the quality of medicines can also be maintained.
