This Department of Pharmacology is where Siddha drugs are primarily subjected to toxicity studies for acute, sub-acute and chronic phases with an objective to study the drugs for toxic effects if any and their influences in different biological systems. As such various experimental pharmacological techniques are being employed for evaluating the different aspects of drug effects/efficacy evaluation.
Since inception this department has undertaken 150 drugs formulation along with several Ayurvedic drugs allotted by the council and several isolates for Caption Srinivasamoorthy Drug Research Institute for Ayurveda, Chennai for pharmacological activities with special reference to toxic effects. At present this department is involved in the pre clinical toxicological and pharmacological studies of Siddha as well as Ayurvedic drugs also. This department has so far carried out more than two hundred pharmacological and toxicity studies such as: Anti-malarial, Hepatoprotectant/ hepato curative, Antipyretic, anti-arthritic, Antifertility Immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory Anti stress, Anti-ulcerative, Wound healing, Analgesic, Anticonvulsant, Diuretic, Ant diabetic, CNS activity (Rota-rod, cook’s pole climbing apparatus, actophotometer), anticancer, acute toxicity, sub acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, etc.

LABORATORY ANIMAL HOUSE FACILITY:
To cater the need of laboratory animals like albino rats and mice the department has established laboratory animal house in 1973. As per CPCSEA (Committee for the purpose of control and supervision on experiments on animals) guidelines for animal facility, registration (Reg.No.512/01/CPCSEA) had been approved for carrying out the experiments in 2001. The animals are scientifically bred on different scientific lines to provide animals for research with least possible variations.
